Just in case anyone has time to read the TPP trade deal it can be found here. This deal is supposed to be good for the countries involved. The countries involved are Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, United States, and Vietnam. Once again I ask, Is it really good for countries involved or is it good for the Corporatocracy i.e.; the big corporations? Let’s not forget that currently in Australia, Britain, and Uruguay the tobacco company Phillip Morris are suing these governments for plain packaging laws put onto cigarette packets. The tax payers of these countries have to foot the bill to defend the government. What happens if Phillip Morris wins the case as will happen under the TPP? The governments borrow money from the IMF then the tax payer pays back the loan with interest. More money paid out by the tax payer.
What about the Australian potato farmer who grew more than his quota. If the demand is there then the supply needs to be as well. This rubbish happens now without the TPP deal.
The donations made to the senators in the US congress to pass or not to pass the TPP can be found here and more here. Some more learning can be found here. And here. I encourage you to click on these links.
Don’t believe what the advertisements on the television tell you about the TPP. They say it’s good for us. That’s called propaganda. I looked at potatoes for an example. The import tax on these is currently 5%. It will be dropped to 0% in the first year of the TPP taking effect. So if you could import cheaper potatoes from overseas and pay no tax on them coming in to the country why would you buy them from our farmers? As for workers why would you pay top dollar when a worker in Malaysia can do it far cheaper than even China do at the moment.
So email your local MP and say no to the TPP.
