Monsanto are suing the State of California to stop the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) listing Glyphosate as a known carcinogen. The World Health Organisations International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) added Glyphosate to the list of possible cancer causing chemicals in March 2015. An earlier study back in 2007 by (OEHHA) came to the findings that Glyphosate was unlikely to cause cancer. The company has come out and complained that the listing will damage the reputation of the company and violate its first amendment rights. Just think if this can happen now what will happen when the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) is signed into existence. Nothing good I would assume.
Six cities in the US are currently suing Monsanto. San Jose, Berkley, Oakland, San Diego, Spokane, and now Seattle are suing for polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) contamination.. Over 80% of PCB’s have been found in drainage pipes in the Lower Duwamish basin. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will step in to help the cleanup which will total $342 million. Monsanto are said to have known and covered up information that the chemicals were a known global contaminant. Between the 1930’s and the 1970’s PCB’s were banned in the US.
So it makes me wonder why the ban was lifted in the 70’s to allow this to happen. Well it probably comes as no surprise but maybe the article from Zerohedge that lists quotes from past and present US politicians suggesting corruption in government has something to do with it. This is just one quote from the article by Senator Dick Durbin in 2009;
“The banks – hard to believe in a time when we’re facing a banking crisis that many of the banks created are still the most powerful lobby on Capitol Hill. And they frankly own the place”.
This from Al Gore, former Vice President;
“American democracy has been hacked – The United States Congress.. is now incapable of passing laws without permission from the corporate lobbies and other special interests that control their campaign finances.”
This is how the (TPP) came about – with corporation heads sitting down with government officials.
I will leave the reader with this YouTube clip showing a Monsanto backer saying that Round Up containing Glyphosate is safe to drink. Naturally he won’t drink it but just says it’s safe to do so.
