Today’s article is mainly a comedy piece. Australia’s Environment Minister Greg Hunt has won the ‘best minister in the world title’. This is quite unbelievable given that he had a hand in dumping the carbon price, cutting the renewable energy target, removed the climate commission, and helped Australia’s emissions rise 1.3% in 2014/2015 with the government suggesting they will rise to 6.2% in 2020. His government is also trying to take away the Clean Energy Finance Corporation, the Australian Renewable Energy Agency, and the Climate Change Authority. The Minister also said; “We have shown it possible to significantly reduce emissions without hurting our economy or putting extra strain on the lowest income earners.” Reduce emissions?
So who gave Greg Hunt this award? The World Government Summit is the forum that handed him this award. According to their website they ‘set the agenda for the next generation of governments with a focus on how they can harness innovation and technology to solve universal challenges facing humanity.’
‘Each year government officials, thought leaders, thinkers, policy makers and private sector leaders meet to discuss the best ways to develop the future of government, based on the latest developments and future trends in government.’
According to ABC, world leaders, scientists and media experts are attending the summit. Come on, seriously, do we need media involved in governments future? They do enough already for governments with their propaganda and biased reporting.
So they are taking the world into their own hands by the look of it. It is based in the United Arab Emirates and it doesn’t look like there are many governments from the world involved at all. Basically it is friends giving friends awards and then saying to the world look how good I am. Another waste of money that will achieve nothing.
