It looks like Russia and the US diplomats have finally agreed on fighting ISIS together. US Secretary of State John Kerry has made his second visit to Moscow in seven months. He last visited in May. The US has finally decided to align with Russia in stating that the Syrian people will have a say in who governs their country and they will work together against ISIS. The US will obviously say it is of their doing even though Russia has wanted to work together since day one.
The amusing thing is that after all the Russia bashing over the last year, and the attempt to isolate Russia has not worked to US’ favour. Us assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs Victoria Nuland looked very uncomfortable at the meeting considering she was one of the spruikers for isolating Russia. She has admitted that the sanctions put on Russia are to change their policy. In other words do what we want you to or we will put sanctions on your country. Thats US diplomacy at work. The US has been in Syria for four years trying to change the regime with US armed and trained moderate rebels (al-Qaeda) who have defected to ISIS, so then Russia enter with the invitation of the Syrian government to fight ISIS. Victoria Nuland then calls this Russian escalation. More of Nuland here, and here where she says the US has invested $5 billion since 1999 to support Ukraine. To support Ukraine’s move away from Russia. Who is the aggressor??
President Putin has just signed a bill into law that will give the Russian constitution power over any international law that doesn’t align with their constitution. I think any country that signs a treaty, such as the TPP, should do this. It would stop big corporations suing citizens for loss of profits if a country brings in a law that is not beneficial to a particular corporation.
President Putin may have done this in regards to some new investments in Russia. One investment to mention is the big US corporation Halliburton who has had their acquisition of Baker Hughes Russia and Oreburgneftegeofizika approved by the Russian government.
The US seems to be now saying yes sir, no sir to President Putin. So what has changed? Maybe the US realise they need partners on this planet and not enslaved partners who do what they are told. Maybe the US dollar is dying and the US are no longer the sole controlling power of the world and need to align with diplomacy for future assistance. Whatever the case let’s hope the world will be a better place and countries settle differences without war, sanctions or economic war such as the IMF have used (by changing their lending rules) in letting Ukraine out of their $3 billion debt to Russia.
